Studies

The course offerings are intended to provide students with orientation within the broad spectrum of landscape architectural tasks as well as to contribute to the establishment of the social and professional position of landscape architecture. In addition to traditional garden history topics such as the gardens of the Renaissance, the Baroque and the era of landscape gardens, the course offerings focus on more recent history, i.e. primarily on developmental tendencies in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Special attention is paid to the discipline-specific developments during the Weimar Republic and the period of National Socialism, as well as to the effects of the National Socialist dictatorship on the development of landscape architecture after 1945 in the GDR and the FRG. Through the broadening of the course offerings in the subject of history since 1996, landscape architectural fields of activity such as nature conservation, the historical development of professional organizations such as the Association of German Landscape Architects (BDLA) and the German Society for Garden Art and Landscape Culture (DGGL) are now also included.
