On Tuesday, 13 January 2026, at 6:00 p.m., Inken Formann will deliver her inaugural lecture in Lecture Hall Kika, Herrenhäuser Str. 2A. The lecture is part of the public series “Dienstags um 6” organised by the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape at Leibniz University Hannover. It is open to all interested members of the public. Formann took up the professorship History of Landscape Architecture and Garden Heritage Conservation at the Institute of Landscape Architecture in September 2023. She succeeded Joachim Wolschke-Bulmahn, Professor Emeritus, and - like him - also serves as Chair of the Board of the Centre for Garden Art and Landscape Architecture (Centre for Garden Art and Landscape Architecture, CGL), which is associated with the teaching and research field.
Her teaching and research focus on the broad spectrum of garden and landscape culture across many centuries. This encompasses both tangible and intangible garden heritage - heritage that must be researched, preserved, and communicated: a forward-looking and sustainable field of work that brings together cultural, ecological, and social values.
In her inaugural lecture, Professor Formann will outline the values, impacts, and future perspectives of garden cultural heritage in times of profound societal transformation, as well as in the context of climate change and biodiversity loss. She will also draw connections to the long-established garden site of Herrenhausen and to 700 years of garden culture in the Lower Saxony state capital Hannover. In doing so, she will critically examine the visibility and relevance of garden heritage conservation and seeks to open up perspectives on educational and transformative processes within the context of garden heritage.
